40 Years of Flicks
I have now declared myself a movie critic and I have compiled for your viewing pleasure a list of the best 10 films of each decade. Please take note that any disagreed will result in beheading.
1950's:
1. Alice in Wonderland. Reason: Why tweedleDee and TweedleDum ofcourse. Plus a White Rabbit that was as anal retentive as me.
2. An American in Paris. Reason: Gene Kelly totally rocks out in this movie.
3. The African Queen. Reason: Bogart and Katharine Hepburn are so funny together in this film.
4. Singin' in the Rain. Reason: do I really have to explain?
5. Roman Holiday. Reasons: Ok so basically this story is a reverse Cinderella but it is cute anyway. Plus it stars the Queen of Hollywood- Her majesty Audrey Hepburn herself.
6. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Reasons: I don't know if anyone but my mother and I liked this film but its my list so dangit it will be on here.
7. Lady and the Tramp. Reason: I don't actually like this film but the story line is sweet so it is worthy of recognition. Plus I love the little scottie dog.
8. The King and I. Reason: It is my favorite movie ever.
9. Star is Born. Reason: Judy Garlands best work.
10. Sleeping Beauty. Reason: the fairies are kick butt.
1960's:
1. Psycho: Classic horror movie that is still studied by all film/theatre majors.
2. Breakfast at Tiffany's. Reason: Hail to the film queen.
3. One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Reason: Cruela was the bomb. She was a Disney Lady Macbeth.
4. Lawrence of Arabia. Reason: Despite the ridiculous long length, it was pretty good.
5. To Kill a Mockingbird. Reason: Hello did you not have American Lit... because I know you didn't read the book.
6. The Music Man. Reason: Its a musical and I liked it.
7. Hello Dolly!Reason: Awesome, funny movie. One of the best ever made.
8. Mary Poppins. Reason: greatest movie ever- long live Julie Andrew.
9. My Fair Lady. Reason: All hail the movie goddess plus it was hilarious.
10. The Sound of Music. Reason: It is an American institution and we can all sing at least one song from it. That defines a classic right there.
Honorable Mention: The Graduate,The Jungle Book, Funny Girl, The Lion in Winter, Night of the Living Dead, The Birds, and True Grit.
Are you still looking for West Side Story? I promise you it's not on the list because did anybody actually like that movie? I mean seriously?
1970's:
1.Love Story. Reason: I sat and cried through it and still loved it.
2.Fiddler on the Roof. Reason: Another great musical.
3.The Exorcist. Reason: It tramatized a whole generation of young children.
4.The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Reason: I still check my back seat before getting in my car.
5.Young Frankenstein. Reason: I will admit it is very crude but you laughed too.
6.Carrie. Reason: scared me to death and made me cry.
7.Star Wars. Reason: I am a major sci fi fan and this movie was made for us.
8. Halloween. Reason: This was the one and only good one.
9. Grease. Reason: Classic characters and the musical score to ever school concert for the next 100 years.
10. The Muppet Movie. Reason: Muppets Rock.
1980's:
1. Sixteen Candles. Reason: It is so sweet.
2. The Breakfast Club. Reason: Another masterpiece of teenage rebellion.
3. When Harry Met Sally...Reason: The first great rendition of Pride and Prejudice.
4. Field of Dreams. Reason: Only sports movie I might claim to like.
5. Rain Man. Reason: Rain man is cool.
6.Fatal Attraction. Reason: This movie scared the crap out of American men.
7. Dirty Dancing. Reason: Steamy moves.
8. Steel magnolias. Reason: All star crew and memorable lines.
9. Pretty in Pink. Reason: 80's Cinderella.
I know I said there would be ten but thesewere the only movies I liked in the 1980's.
1990's:
1. The Silence of the Lambs. Reason: Here we meet Hannibal Lecter who is the coolest villain of all time. He is the villain we all want to be friends with.
2. Titanic. Reason: Despite being oh so predictable there are some good in the movie.
3. Dances With Wolves. Reason: Classic story with a new twist. Plus we get to see Robin Hood's butt in another movie.
4. Forrest Gump. Reason: Retard finally gets ahead in life.
5. Schindler's List. Reason: Saddest movie I ever saw but so good.
6. Saving Private Ryan. Reason: World meet Orlando Bloom.
7.Joe Versus the Volcano. Reason: Dummest great movie ever.
8. Beauty and the Beast. Reason: One of Disney's best stories ever.
9. Braveheart. Reason: Mel Gibson in a kilt.
10. The Shawshank Redemption. Reason: One of the best and most original films ever.
Honorable Mentions: Shakespeare in Love, Toy Story,Jurassic Park, Pocahontas, and Aladdin.
